Pakistan: Taliban message alludes to forthcoming speech from Adnan Rasheed as “disappeared” friend Mukhtar Ahmad is announced dead

Adnan Rasheed soon to release a “detailed” speech

A message posted on social media indicates that senior Pakistan Taliban Commander Adnan Rasheed (TTP) will soon be releasing a “detailed speech” to followers and foes. It appears Rasheed has survived Pakistan military operation Zarb -e-Azb launched in 2014 to rid North Waziristan, Pakistan, Afghanistan border areas of insurgents and later Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad that followed.

The message on an online forum used by Taliban supporters reads,

“Close buddy of Commander Adnan Rasheed dies in Chota Lahore, Swabi Pakistan. Ex Corporal technician Mukhtar Ahmad age 38 was subjected to disappearance in 2004 from 14 Squadron PAF base Kamra on suspicion of involvement in attacks on Pervez Musharraf the then president. Mukhtar was tortured and his backbone fractured. The deceased passed 12 years on bed paralysed, only his head and neck was functional. Mukhtar was man of courage who took oath of allegiance to Mullah Omar and fought against Musharraf being in uniform. He was a member of a secret jihadi organisation Idara tul Pakistan inside Pakistan armed forces. May Allah rest his soul in peace and give him Jannat ul Fidous. Ameen.”

Rasheed who originates from Chota Lahor village, Swabi district was awarded a death sentence in 2005 in relation to an attack on then President Pervez Musharraf. He was freed from Bannu Central Jail, in Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with nearly 400 other prisoners by 200 heavily armed TTP militants assisted by Uzbek mujahideen on 15th April 2012. Rasheed became known globally after penning a letter to schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai lamenting an attack in which she was shot by the Taliban whilst he was in jail. Western media have incorrectly reported that Malala was “shot for going to school”. As Dawn media reported on October 12th 2017 this was not the reason given by TTP,

“In the statement sent out by TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan from an undisclosed location, the banned outfit said that although they do not believe in attacking women, ‘whom so ever leads a campaign against Islam and Shariah is ordered to be killed by Shariah.’”

Ehsan denied the shooting was about education. (He has since defected from the Taliban.) The attack on Malala was condemned by many international human rights organizations. Key members of the Taliban are known to be married to well-educated women, some received both Islamic education and also trained abroad in their chosen profession. In his letter to Malala, Rasheed wrote,

“In 2004 I was in Swat, I was researching on the causes of failure of the first revolution attempt by Sufi Muhammad. I came to know that FC was stationed in the schools of swat in tehsil Matta and FC was using schools as their transit camps and hid outs. Now tell me who to blame??? Dozens of schools and colleges are being used by Pakistan Army and FC as their barracks in FATA, you can find out easily if you like. So when something sacred is turned lethal it needs to be eliminated this is the policy of Taliban. Blowing up schools when they are not using strategically is not the Taliban job, some black sheep of local administration may be involved to extract more and more funds in the name of schools to fill their bank accounts.

Now I come to the main point that is EDUCATION, it is amazing that you are Shouting for education, you and the UNO is pretending that as you were shot due to education, although this is not the reason, be honest, not the education but your propaganda was the issue and what you are doing now, you are using your tongue on the behest of the others and you must know that if the pen is mightier than the sword then tongue is sharper and the injury of sword can be hailed but the injury of the tongue never hails and in the wars tongue is more destructive than any weapon.”
