Afghanistan: Islamic State Khorasan allege “control” over an army base in Asheen Nangarhar

Breaking: Control over an Afghan army base in Asheen-Nangarhar (1st October 2015)

In a continuation of their assault on army bases in the province of Nangarhar in Afghanistan, Islamic State Khorasan have issued the following statement,

“Allah made it easy for the army of the ‘khilafah’ (Islamic State, Khorasan) to gain control over an Afghan Army base in Asheen-Nangarhar and this was after the attacks were aimed at the Afghan apostate army in which 2 BMP vehicles and every one in it were killed. Likewise 10s of apostates were killed during another heavy attack on the apostate commander of the base Noor Khan who was severely wounded and the battles are still going on.”

(This statement could not be independently verified)

The group was founded in the region around October 2015 when a group of fighters defected from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) forming Islamic State Khorasan under the command of  Hafiz Saeed Khan. A video was released in January 2015 showing the group giving allegiance to ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. IS Khorasan were recently placed on the US list of global terrorist organizations, see following,
