The mistreatment of inmates in the prisons and detention centers of the American invaders and Kabul regime taking place over the past 15 years and about which complaints have repeatedly been launched, have only increased recently. According to authentic reports – alongside other prisons and provincial detention centers – horrific treatment, cruelty, savagery and inhumane actions against detainees in Bagram prison (run jointly by America and the Kabul regime) have increased and the prisoners are facing dire conditions.
According to authentic reports received by officials of the Islamic Emirate, the following barbaric actions are being carried out by Kabul regime officials, officers and workers against prisoners which is clear cruelty and violation of prisoner rights.
1 – In violation of our Islam and culture, prisoners have been given red uniforms to wear meaning tight pants and short shirts that do not extent beyond the waistline. This inappropriate dress has created serious problems for the inmates in sitting, standing, praying and other basic movements. This is the same dress which was forced upon prisoners by the Americans in Bagram and Guantanamo during the initial years
2 – Families have either been completely barred or have to wait for several months to get a meeting and even that is only for twenty minutes with glass wall between them, producing psychological problems for both inmates and families.
3 – Food is of very small portions and of lowest standards starting from the cooking oil, to the color of food, to the serving size and everything else.
4 – Many inmates have developed stomach and gut illnesses due to the poor food which has even caused some inmates to accept suicide.
5 – Patients are unreachable, doctor and medicine quality is poor while repeated complaints and insistence do not bring positive change to patients. Some prison officials testify that rights of prisoners are sold through bribes, corrupt officials embezzle medicine and other necessities and replace it with poor quality medical goods which does not have any effect, leading to illnesses becoming perpetual and chronic and jeopardizing the health of prisoners.
6 – Sport and hygiene is also compromised as permissions are delayed and obstructed compared to the past.
7 – The treatment by guards has become strict and inhumane. They use offensive words and curse, make noises during sleep time, create hindrance during recital and prayer times and have purposefully begun vexing prisoners.
8 – Restrictions have also been enforced on books and reading materials. Necessary books have been disallowed and efforts are being made to obstruct the legitimate activities of prisoners to create uproar and disorder.
The Islamic Emirate condemns mistreatment of prisoners by the invaders and their hirelings and wishes to turn the attention of international human right organizations and the media towards the prisons in the country especially the notorious Bagram prison so that they carry out their duties regarding mistreatment of prisoners in accordance with human sympathy, and either put an end to this cruelty with their voices or carry out impartial investigation into the matter, the results of which should be announced and handed over to the media.
