Dr Mads 2008 (left) and child with horrific head injuries 2014 (right)
Dearest Friends,
The last night was extreme. The “ground” invasion” of Gaza resulted in scores and carloads with maimed, torn apart bleeding, shivering – dying all sorts of Palestinians, all ages, all civilians, all innocent.
The blood of babies all around
The heroes in the ambulances and all of Gaza’s hospitals are working 12-24 hour shifts, grey from fatigue and inhuman workloads (without payment in Shifa for the last 4 months) they care, triage, try to understand the incomprehensible chaos of bodies, sizes, limbs, walking, not walking, breathing, not breathing, bleeding, not bleeding. HUMANS.
Now once more treated like animals by “the most moral army in the world” (sic!)
Paramedic (left) discovers those he is called to treat are dead and injured family members and elderly lady injured and distressed (right)
My respect for the wounded is endless, in their contained determination in the midst of pain, agony and shock; my admiration for the staff and volunteers is endless, my closeness to the Palestinian “sumud” gives me strength, although in glimpses I want to scream, hold someone tight, cry, smell the skin and hair of the warm child, covered in blood, protect ourselves in an endless embrace but we cannot afford that, nor can they.
A massacre of innocents
Ash grey faces, Oh NO not one more load of tens of maimed and bleeding, we still have lakes of blood on the floor in the ER, piles of blood soaked dripping bandages to clear out – oh – the cleaners everywhere, swiftly shovelling the blood and discarded tissues, hair, clothes, canulas – the leftovers from death – all taken away… to be prepared again, to be repeated all over.
Distraught father with his dead child (left) and the pain and suffering of a injured boy (right)
More than 100 cases came to Shifa last 24 hours, enough for a large well-trained hospital with everything, but here – almost nothing: electricity, water, disposables, drugs, OR tables, instruments, monitors – all rusted and as if taken from museums of yesterdays hospitals. But they do not complain -these heroes. They get on with it, like warriors, head on, enormous resolute.
And as I write these words to you, alone, on a bed, my tears flow, the warm but useless tears of pain and grief, of anger and fear. This is not happening.
The fear of a little one (left) and unbearable grief (right)
From the press to a tiny baby… no one is spared
And then, just now, the orchestra of the Israeli war- machine starts its gruesome symphony again: just now salvos of artillery from the navy boats just down on the shores, the roaring F16, the sickening drones Arabic, Zennanis (the hummers) and the cluttering Apaches. So much made and paid in and by US.
Mr Obama, do you have a heart?
I invite you – spend one night – just one night – with us in Shifa. Disguised as a cleaner maybe.
I am convinced 100% it would change history.
Traumatized youngsters
Nobody with a heart AND power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people. But the heartless and merciless have done their calculations and planned another “dahyia” onslaught on Gaza. The rivers of blood will keep running the coming night. I can hear they have tuned their instruments of death.
Final good-bye to a husband (left) and latest casualty right)
Victims burnt and decapitated
Please. Do what you can. This THIS cannot continue.

Mr.obama you should stop supporting israel think If this would have happend with you ,your family or any of your relatives then surely you would have done something to stop this. Be Human. If you have power you should use it in right manner ,for right purpose ,for Good deed and Not only for Monetary Gains.
If nothing then atleast have fear of your Lord. He is seeing everything and he surely don’t like the wrong doer, he will punish them badly and the curse of the people of Gaza will take a form of very hard punishment.
US supporting this terrible aggression from Israel will only increase anti- American sentiment. The money spent on arms to Israel could be used to much greater and humane effect for the welfare of the American people.

Why are innocent ppl bn killd!!! WHY!! WHAT WRONG HAVE THEY DN. ITS THEIR HOME THEIR LAND SO WHY SHOULD THEY LEAVE ALL THAT AND GO AWAY.
I have never seen so many horrific injuries in so short a space of time over recent days and weapons used are deeply concerning the medics that are dealing with injuries that are testing all their expertise. I have nothing but admiration for those attending the many wounded.
I can’t believe all this world still keep quiet
……..but the justice one day will come inchaalh..our heart with you Gaza.
Quiet for far too long… however the numbers at international protests from ordinary civilians over the past few days has significantly increased .. but getting our leaders to act is something else!!!
Ya Allah! The cries are echoing in the heavens tonight and even the faintest whimper is reverberating in the firmament. Deploy your celestial forces and decimate those who dare to plunder the lives of those whose hearts resonate with the incantation of your name. ..
I feel this could be Israels biggest mistake to date… times are changing and maybe the tide will turn… prayers for our Palestinian sisters and brothers that they get the support they deserve!
I am devastated I gt no words coming from my mouth only tears rolling down my eyes please leave them alone Israel please have mercy
Unfortunately, Israel will not do so unless there is a huge amount of pressure in many directions… so we must do what we can through demos, petitions and our politicians…
What can I do to help? Besides praying?
Prayers is very important… one of the phrases I hear most from friends in Gaza is “please pray for us”. Alert your politicians, pressure them to act… freeze Israel economically by not buying goods from stolen land, check labels, write letters, articles, share information to educate others.. the pressure is building!

It would best to quote the source of the Article next time.
My article was published on 20th July 0.14…. the article you refer to is same letter but came several hours later around 11. The point is this was sent out for as many people to share as possible and publish to tell the world with full credit to Dr Mads Gilbert… and we all have our different ways of doing so… I suggest instead of sniping it might be useful to consider how you can be of use in some way yourself and to know the circumstances before you judge!
It is truly tragic that anyone suffers, especially children who have no stake in the causes or immediate outcome of war(s). However, if militants from the Gaza strip had kept their missiles at home, using them ONLY in self defense, instead of attempting to shell Israeli’s, drive them off the land where they dwell, and bring sorrow and damage to the general Israeli population, there would be no retaliation. Retaliation is just that, attacking in response to atrocities committed.
I’m sorry the entire region cannot live in peace, and at peace with each other. Why can’t we as human beings let each other live and each one go about their own business, and not decide one group/culture/society must be driven out, killed, or eliminated? Good grief folks, let us get over ourselves and our own petty grievances.
Blessings,
Son of Liberty
