Message to Parents of Special Needs/Disabled Children…

Assalamu Alaykum

This is a message from myself and my wife (Umm Aaminah) to all parents who have children (as well as family members) with special needs/disabilities…

Allah azzawajal has tested us and given us the responsibility of taking care of our family members especially children who have disabilities/special needs. This is an Amaanah, a trust bestowed upon us. Although sometimes we think or question why we are in such a situation remember that Allah tests those whom He loves with that which they love.

Sometimes we don’t understand the wisdom behind Allah testing us but it is never intended to destroy us:

“When Allah tests you, it is never intended to destroy you. When He removes something in your possession, it is only in order to empty your hands for an even greater gift.” – Ibn al-Qayyim

Allah has blessed us and gave us the opportunity to meet another Ramadan, we look around and see others are actively engaging in Ibadah more than us. We feel left behind in our Deen causing us to be despondent and confused. However we must realise that we are also actively engaged in Ibadah, every second of the day by looking after our children (or family members) with disabilities/special needs! Ibadah isn’t restricted to praying your Salah, fasting , etc, Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah wrote:

“Worship is a comprehensive term covering everything that Allah loves and is pleased with – whether saying, or actions, outward and inward.” [Majmu’ al-Fatawa (10/149)]

Let’s be patient as Allah told us in the Quran that the reward of the Sabiroon will be given without measure.

Maybe InshAllah this will be our ticket to Jannah. On the Day of Judgement almost everyone will be overwhelmed with regret in a way that we can’t even imagine. Those who were tested by Allah and were patient will show up with so many sins completely erased and the relief they will feel when they realise that is just unimaginable. Others will look on in envy and wishing they could go back and get twenty diseases and fifty problems and live a life of utter pain, because this entire ‪#‎dunya‬ – even if you were to live 100 years – is not even 1% of the 50,000-year-long DAY of Judgement. If that’s just ONE DAY, then what about the ‪#‎Akhirah‬? Forever!

Don’t lose hope, keep on going and beseech Allah.

May Allah pour upon us patience.

Ramadan Mubarak

7a01ba15378f3e76ce8a8ddf95027b67_XL

On 4th June, the vehicle of a civilian countryman (named Ghulam Nabi) was torn apart in a drone strike of the brutal foreign invaders in which he was martyred on the spot. This incident took place in ‘Pakha-Khuwar’ area of ‘Achin’ district of ‘Nangarhar’ province.

On 6th June, thirty five ordinary people were martyred and several others were injured in an indiscriminate drone strike of the savage foreign invaders in ‘Bati’ area of ‘Ali-Shair’ district of ‘Khost’ province. This tragic incident took place when the people were going back homes, either pedestrian or equestrian, after burying a deceased local tribal chieftain when two of their vehicles were hit in a drone strike which resulted in the above mentioned civilian massacre. The heads of the nomadic tribes of ‘Khost’ province strongly condemned this calamity and demanded the earliest possible trial of the perpetrators of this disaster. Moreover, two hundred families were forced to evacuate from this area. Local people told the media that whenever these timid Arbaki-militiamen are ambushed by Taliban, instead of fighting them back, they turn the barrels of their guns on the helpless indigenous dwellers of this area in retaliation.

On 8th June, thirty ordinary civilians were arrested and taken away as prisoners by the local soldiers after a clash with Taliban in ‘Varsaki’ area of ‘Naka’ district of ‘Paktika’ province.

The former member of the provincial council, Mr. Noor Mohammad, told that the so called security forces opened indiscriminately mortar shelling on the civilian houses which resulted in these casualties. The local people had gathered in front of the ‘Shindand’ district head office protesting and demanding the earliest possible trial of the perpetrators of this tragedy.

Islamic State use Palmyra amphitheatre as backdrop for mass execution of Syrian soldiers

CJFRNAfWoAIU-VQ

Scene of execution at Palmyra, IS (IS video)

Islamic State has chosen the amphitheatre in the ancient city of Palmyra, in the Syrian desert for its latest execution video. UNESCO describes the site as,

“an oasis in the Syrian desert, north-east of Damascus, Palmyra contains the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world. From the 1st to the 2nd century, the art and architecture of Palmyra, standing at the crossroads of several civilizations, married Graeco-Roman techniques with local traditions and Persian influences.”

Jihadists have allegedly been destroying artifacts, statues from the World Heritage Site including the 2,000 year old Lion of al-Lat, see Links section.

The 10 minute video features shots reminiscent of scenes from a Hollywood movie showing crowds beying in a Roman amphitheatre awaiting sacrifices, except this is not reenactment the killing is real.

The video features the now familiar nasheeds which carry the viewer along to the inevitable slaughter. The footage shows 25 regime soldiers that IS claim were captured in Homs being led into the amphitheatre. The men who shows signs of bruising and bleeding are made to kneel on a stage in front of the black IS flag. Young executioners (Caliphate Cubs) that appear to be in their early teenage years shoot dead the soldiers that are then seen in a series of close- up shots.

IS are later seen blowing up an Assad regime prison.

Islamic State have also allegedly been on the receiving end of “violence via video” as shown in a recent video featuring Jaysh Al-Islam ‘Army of Islam’ dressed in orange jumpsuits that executes 13 members they claim are Islamic State. However as Pieter Naninnga points out in tweets on 2nd July some dispute the claims…

Bye bye “British values”: Letter from Mannan family in Islamic State rejects “so called freedom and democracy”

_83978317_group

The Mannan family left the UK freely to make a new life with the Islamic State (image Bedfordshire police)

The letter allegedly released by the Mannan family who state why they left the UK to make a new life in Syria comes as no surprise to those of us that have followed Muslim migration to join jihadi groups and live in the Islamic State (IS).

IS came to world attention in June 2014, when it announced the founding of  a “caliphate” state based on Sharia (Islamic law) following the rule of Allah (God) as opposed to man-made laws. The Caliph (head) of IS is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Over the past year the presence of IS has been felt in a number of countries and their influence continues to spread. Followers have claimed responsibility for a number of terrorist attacks on Shia mosques and attacks such as the Bardo Museum attack and the killings on a beach at Sousse. IS has proven itself media savvy after it started to launch a series of ever more horrifying videos via social media sites punishing those they viewed as enemies of Islam.

Relatives of the Mannan family reported their disappearance earlier this year after they failed to arrive at Heathrow airport. According to police, they had taken a flight to Bangladesh (10th April) and travelled onwards to Istanbul (11th May), the Mannans never completed the last part of their itinerary back to the UK. The BBC list the family as follows,

  • Muhammed Abdul Mannan, 75, and his wife Minera Khatun, 53
  • Their daughter Rajia Khanom, 21, and sons Mohammed Zayd Hussain, 25, Mohammed Toufique Hussain, 19, Mohammed Abil Kashem Saker, 31, and his wife Sheida Khanam, 27
  • Mohammed Saleh Hussain, 26, and his wife Roshanara Begum, 24, along with three children, aged between one and 11

The letter detailing reasons for abandoning the UK was released to selected media via IS linked accounts on Twitter and can be read in its entirety below,

PRESS RELEASE DATED 3RD JULY 2015

FROM THE MANNAN FAMILY IN THE LAND OF KHILAFAH

In the name of Allah the Merciful and especially Merciful

We release this statement to confirm that, indeed we are in the Islamic State. A land that is free from the corruption and oppression of man made law and is governed by the shariah, the perfect and just laws of Allah subhanAllah wa Ta’la.

Yes, all 12 of us and why should this number be shocking, when there are thousands and thousands of Muslims from all corners of the world that are crossing over land and sea everyday to come to the Islamic State? That are willingly leaving the so called freedom and democracy that was forced down our throat in the attempt to brainwash Muslims to forget about their powerful and glorious past and now present.

Or is it shocking that those attempts have clearly failed? That regardless of being born and bred in the west, the epitome of democracy, our Islam was not washed away? And despite the totalitarian rules that are in place, Muslims are still awaking to their obligations?

Don’t be shocked when we say that none of us were forced against our will. In fact it is outrageous to think that an entire family could be kidnapped and made to migrate like this. It wasn’t by the command of a single person in the family but by the command of the Khalifah of the Muslims. Who has called all Muslims, whether young or old, single or in families, to make hijrah to the state of Islam. A land that has established the Shariah, in which a Muslim doesn’t feel oppression when practising their religion. In which a parent doesn’t feel the worry of losing their child to the immorality of society. In which the sick and elderly do not wait in agony, tolerating the partiality of race or social class.

Alhamdulillah for the establishment of the Khilafah.

We say to those that are concerned for our safety to put your hearts at rest for we feel safer than we have ever felt before. We call all Muslims, to rush to the command of your khalif. Race to your state. Race to what will give you honour in this life and the hereafter. Hasten to the obedience of Allah. Do not fear losing the life you built for yourselves by making hijrah but fear losing your Imaan and Islam whilst residing in darul kufr and not making hijrah.

‘Verily! As for those whom the Angels have taken (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory to them), they (angels) asked them, “In what condition were you?”. They replied, “We were weak and oppressed on earth”. The Angels asked, “Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to migrate therein?” Such men will find their abode in Hell – what an evil destination!” [Chapter Nisa:97]

We pray Allah saves from such a fate and guides us all to be obedient to His commands. Ameen.

The Mannan Family in the Islamic State

End

——————————–

The reasons for leaving the UK presented by the Mannan family may shock many Brits but Muslims experience of “freedom and democracy” has in reality meant shrinking freedoms, discrimination, increased surveillance and wrongful imprisonment. Remember individuals like Moazzam Begg, initially vilified in the media who suffered in Guantanamo Bay and Belmarsh prison and after years of being detained was released without charge from both.

The government Prevent strategy, a counter -terrorism initiative introduced to tackle radicalization in the UK cannot hope to have much success it is so out of touch with ground realities. In fact according to tweets released by Cage (an independent advocacy organisation working to empower communities impacted by the War on Terror) it is failing miserably and they have called on the government to abolish the programme.

Exclusive** CAGE publishes leaked PREVENT training DVD.

In the interest of greater public debate and scrutiny, CAGE has made this PREVENT training module available to the public.

‘Assumption that a few videos can be used to train public sectors workers in a complex political issue is naive and dangerous’.

“CAGE calls upon the Gov’t to abolish PREVENT; it has failed to deliver in the past 8 years, it is discredited, it is toxic…”

Instead of addressing the role of the state and its institutions in radicalizing citizens, the years of British involvement in wars and occupation such as in Iraq and Afghanistan, support for Israeli atrocities and a controversial drone programme, the blame is placed almost entirely on the public.

Muslim migration to Islamic State and other areas is set to increase. So called “British values” are full of double standards and hypocrisy and are often mocked on social media. Whereas in the past the government could pass off journeys to join those inspired by Jihad (Holy War) as limited to “disillusioned young men” “misfits” “on the margins of society” it is increasingly women and entire families. The state in fact has failed to realize in recent years that often those leaving to fight abroad (before the Syrian conflict) and later to serve the Islamic State have often been well educated professionals, doctors, engineers, teachers that left their “safe and secure” life behind. Dr Mirza Tariq Ali for example left the NHS to join the Taliban (he was later “martyred” in a US drone strike).

We must surely ask what is going wrong in the UK, the oppression and social injustice felt by Muslims when a family states they are willingly leaving all behind to start again in what many Brits views as a shockingly brutal Islamic State. Today we hear how two of the three teenage girls Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and Amira Abase, 15 who left Bethnal Green in February to travel abroad have allegedly now married men from IS.

British government must face, difficult though it may be to swallow, that many of the atrocities committed by IS are little more than copycat actions following the years of suppression and alleged terror and torture carried out by the UK and its allies across the world. This is something the government is not only unwilling to face but is now in the mode of deflecting all responsibility for radicalization firmly at the feet of Muslim communities. Muslims are now expected to apologize for every act of terror carried out globally while states hide behind an often warped rhetoric to manipulate the masses.

Occupied Palestine: Mother loses 3rd son shot dead on his way to pray at Al Aqsa Mosque

11707487_10154031675795760_6600104457161928163_n

Muhammad al- Kasbeh (17)

Today for the third time in her life, a mother received the devastating news of the death of one of her children. The pain she must be suffering is unimaginable.

Muhammad al- Kasbeh (age 17) was on a journey at dawn which if denied checkpoint access by Israeli soldiers would involve climbing the Israeli built apartheid wall which separated him from the Al Aqsa Mosque. The third holiest site in Islam is situated in the occupied old city of Jerusalem where Muhammad wished simply to pray during Ramadan. As Al Monitor states, “for Muslims, the entire walled and guarded compound that includes Al-Aqsa Mosque — Masjid Omar, the Islamic Museum and the courtyards — is generally referred to as Haram al-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary) and is regarded as one holy site.” Thousands were expected to attend Al Aqsa this Friday. Muhammad never reached his destination, his journey of faith would mean the ending of his life.

11707528_10154031800860760_1012305200131421309_n

Climbing the Israeli apartheid wall

Younes Arar, an activist and human rights defender “for Palestine, my homeland” posted details on his Facebook account. He stated that Muhammad was allegedly “shot in cold blood by a brigade commander holding a rank of ‘General’. He was shot dead, once in the head and another in his chest and left bleeding to death.”

Muhammad had 2 brothers Yaser and Samer who were also killed by Israeli forces in 2002. As Arar wrote poignantly on his page, “they were children when they were shot as well. The Palestinian can be killed for any reason just because of what he / she is, because she/he is a Palestinian, thats enough reason to be killed for, 3 July 2015.”

The aggression faced daily by Palestinians from Israeli forces

Muhammad was far from the only one prepared to take a chance on climbing the wall. Daily Sabah reported,

“Jameel Abu Rob, 20, from the West Bank city of Ramallah told Anadolu Agency that he jumped over the separation wall, which is 6 meters high, to pray at al-Aqsa.

“It is a serious risk,” Abu Rob said. “You can get shot, but the feeling that you are praying among tens of thousands of Muslim people at Al-Aqsa Mosque cannot be described.”

Abu Rob said he hopes he does not get caught by the Israeli army on his way back home.”

Arar expressed the determination of Palestinians to continue their perilous journey to Al Aqsa, he said,

“did this crime stop the Palestinians from claiming their right to enter our city?????, did their apartheid wall succeeded to make us give up our right??????, this pic which was taken today answers my questions, nothing and nothing can stand between us and our city occupied Jerusalem, 3 July 2015.”

Not even a Palestinian child was safe at Al Aqsa. Palestinian News Network reported that a 10-year-old girl received leg injuries after she was allegedly physically assaulted at the holy site by an Israeli special unit police officer, after she chanted ‘Allahu akbar’ (God is great). She is said to have received treatment at the scene.

Funerals of young men are very common

Muhammad’s funeral was held today. Attended by a throng of young men, no doubt wondering who might be next. Pamela Hardyment condemned the killing of Muhammad on Facebook saying,

“the crying mothers of Palestine..if I were an artist I would create a sculpture for our sisters and place it in every capital city throughout the world, for every country is complicit in this casual genocide of the Palestinian people.”

For one mother, there will be no celebration this Eid. Ramadan will bring back the horror of the loss of her third child each year for the rest of her life.

Terrorism: Inaccurate reporting by “specialists” and “mocking the enemy” the games killers play?

Seifeddine Rezgui alleged to have trained in Libya with weapons (Image, Telegraph)

Seifeddine Rezgui (23) who killed 38 tourists at the beach resort of Sousse, Tunisia allegedly “crossed the border in secret” and “trained in Libya with weapons at the same period as the Bardo (museum) attackers” according to a statement from Rafik Chelli (interior ministry, Tunisia) to Associated Press. The Independent reported Chelli as saying, “Rezgui had visited the neighbouring country in January, travelling with fellow jihadists who afterwards carried out the attack that targeted tourists at the Bardo Museum in Tunis, leaving 22 dead.” Friends of Rezgui also claimed he had visited Libya again in March.

The BBC reported that, “the Tunisian authorities have already arrested several suspected accomplices” in relation to the Sousse attack suggesting others may have been involved in some way. In addition, aquaintances of Rezgui also believed he had trained in Libya as student Wassim Bel Adel explained to Sky News, see following video link from the Guardian,

http://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2015/jul/01/tunisia-gunman-seifeddine-rezgui-libya-video

This information was reported widely by Irish Times, BBC , the Sydney Morning Herald and a range of other international media. Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for both attacks in the country.

Nabila Ramdani, the “specialist” that failed to check her research (image BBC Newsnight)

The information released by Tunisian authorities goes against an article on “lone wolf” attackers in the Guardian by Nabila Ramdani, so called specialist in Anglo-French issues, Islamic affairs, and the Arab World who seems more interested in self promotion than checking statements. Ramdani an independent Paris-born freelance journalist of Algerian descent who claims a list of awards failed to do her research. She is claiming that both Yassine Salhi who carried out the beheading of his boss in France (on the same day as Rezgui) and Rezgui himself are both “micro -terrorists” “lone wolves” and “there is no evidence of either travelling abroad to train for combat.” The misguided “academic” also stated that both men “were thought to be “self-radicalised”, rather than members of a wider cell.” Perhaps Ramdani is so busy listing her personal achievements there is no time for background research?

I politely challenged her claims regarding Rezgui, sending Ramdani the statement from Chelli on Rezgui’s alleged training in Libya. After a short Twitter interaction where she failed to defend her stance, instead of admitting inaccuracies she proceeded to block the messenger thus feeding into claims by many insurgents that mainstream media are so biased it affects their presentation and ability to report. Had Ramdani curbed her arrogance and taken time to listen, she might have even learnt something. Her report can be read on the following link,

“These lone wolf terrorists are not holy warriors”

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jun/30/islam-atrocities-lone-wolves-pack-terrorists

Back in March 2015, IS alleged in their publication Dabiq number 8,

“in the city of Tunis, two soldiers of the Islamic State carried out an assault on kāfir tourists in the Bardo National Museum. The two mujāhidīn, Abū Zakariyyā at-Tūnusī and Abū Anas at-Tūnusī, were sent on their mission after having trained with their brothers in Libya and having declared their bay’ah to the Khalīfah (hafidhahullāh). They returned to Tunisia, bravely advanced towards the security quarter in Tunis, entered the museum – located across from the Tunisian parliament – and poured terror on the kuffār inside, killing more than 20 of them and injuring a dozen others. They then faced off against the local murtadd security forces with their AK assault rifles, hand grenades, and explosive belts, and were killed fī sabīlillāh.

The operation succeeded in bringing anguish to a number of the nations involved in the crusader coalition (Italy, France, Britain, Japan, Poland, Australia, Spain, and Belgium), after some of their own citizens became prey for the soldiers”

Today AP reported Government minister Kamel Jendoubi as stating eight people are still being detained in Tunisia, “seven men and one woman — are suspected of direct links to the attacks” Jendoubi added that the investigation “has allowed us to discover the network behind the operation in Sousse.”

A security official tells The Associated Press the move to his home aims to find his passport, to determine if he traveled abroad. Yassine Salhi “told interrogators that  he had decapitated his employer ‘in a car park’”  (Image Laurent Cipriani”

Ramdani also stated, that Yassine Salhi (the French attacker who decapitated his boss and allegedly crashed a vehicle into gas cylinders at an industrial site to cause an explosion) is said to be offering “personal reasons” as mitigation for activities. Ramdani appears to have accurately reported his words though the reasons given by Salhi are questionable. The Independent initially reported the following on 28th June 2015,

“Yassin Salhi, 35, told interrogators that  he had decapitated his employer “in a car park”  because of “problems at home and at work”.

Before attacking the factory near Lyon, Mr Salhi used his mobile phone to take an image of himself with the severed head of his boss, Hervé Cornara, 54. He then sent the image to a number in Toronto, Canada. French and Canadian investigators believe the number may have relayed the image to an acquaintance of Mr Salhi who is fighting with Isis in Syria.”

According to ABC News. French Prosecutor, Francois Molins has now stated that,

“investigations in the four days since Salhi’s arrest — notably evidence of contact with an Islamist militant in Syria — justified an inquiry on charges of suspected terrorism and not simply, as Salhi argued, an assassination that was provoked by personal problems with his boss and wife.”

Ramdani appears to have already decided however that Salhi is a “micro-terrorist” a “wretched freelancer” and a “lone wolf”… she writes,

“nowadays anyone can claim a link with the so-called Islamic State or al-Qaida and their dark crimes. All it takes are a few shouted slogans, a selfie next to a bloodied body part, or an obscure flag. Affiliations are usually based on what someone has seen on television or online. The media will do the rest.”

I am not sure what Ramdani’s personal agenda is, however IB Times reported, “Prosecutor François Molins accused Yassin Salhi of having a “selective memory” about the attack on Friday (26 June), which he said bore all the hallmarks of the Islamic State (Isis) jihadi group.”

See following link,

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/france-isis-lyon-suspect-yassin-salhi-hit-victim-jack-choked-him-before-beheading-1508630

Salhi may well be mocking the police (and the west) by using the “personal problems” defence. In recent weeks there have been many heated discussions on social and “jihadi” forums relating to how easy it is in the west for non-Muslims to claim “personal reasons” family, work and mental health problems as mitigation in order to avoid “terrorism” charges.

Craig Stephen Hicks, was killing a “car park dispute” or something else? (Image, Chuck Liddy, the News and Observer, AP)

One such case regularly discussed on forums was the killing of 3 Muslim students in North Carolina by Craig Stephen Hicks who declared himself “anti-theist” and “criticised all religions online” according to the Independent. His victims were named as Shaddy Barakat (23), his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha (21) and her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha (19). The Mail Online also reported that Hicks “posted online that he was a staunch advocate of the constitutional right to bear arms.”

At the time of Hicks killings, I received mocking messages from an individual appearing to know Hicks suggesting that certain pre -meditated killings of minorities in the US would be passed off as “lone wolf” attacks thus focusing away from any right-wing extremist links. The messenger suggested that these individuals would be treated as “heroes” for sacrificing a few years in prison. The use of a defence such as “family” “work reasons” and “mental health” would then work to focus investigators away from prosecuting as terrorists. The interactions were chilling and were discussed with other writers, campaigners at the time.

What is interesting is that according to the Mail, “Hicks’ wife held a press conference shortly after the murders to say that the killings were not a hate crime and that they were a result of a dispute over parking.” The Times reported that “the victims’ cars were all parked correctly in the apartment complex where they lived on the night of the attack.” Family and friends of the slain students claimed Hicks who was described as an “angry man” appeared to be obsessed with the Muslim students wearing of a headscarf symbolizing their faith.

There was outrage from many Muslims globally at the time of the Hicks attack, furious that this case was not being treated as “terrorism” claiming that if he were a Muslim killing white students he would have likely been treated as a “terrorist”.

It may be coincidence that Salhi in France is claiming “personal reasons” for his alleged killing of his boss however his specific reference to beheading in a “car park” is interesting, and may be significant given the Hicks case. Though Salhi has not been publicly linked to any terrorist group, that is not to say this is not a possibility and it is well know that the Islamic State for example mimics the “crimes of the west” on its videos. Could Salhi have been mimicking Hicks and his defence stated to authorities?

Dylann-Storm-Roof

Dylann Roof investigators checking out his online connections, did he operate alone? (Image, Independent)

Dylann Roof (21) is alleged to have shot dead 9 worshippers in a church in Charleston, South Carolina (also featured in Ramdani’s “lone wolf” report) and was photographed wearing a jacket embellished with flags from apartheid-era South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). The case again enraged Muslims that this was not being treated as “terrorism”. Several journalists, politicians, activists and terror analysts argued that the alleged killings fitted the FBI criteria for ” domestic terrorism”.

See my earlier article,

“US domestic terrorism: We need to talk about Dylann, Charleston Church Shootings”

https://activist1.wordpress.com/2015/06/19/us-domestic-terrorism-we-need-to-talk-about-dylann-charleston-church-shootings/

The Guardian has recently reported that Roof is now being investigated with regard to his alleged links on social media.

“the FBI and local authorities are investigating a website that may contain a manifesto created by the white supremacist Dylann Roof before he walked into a South Carolina church this week and shot dead nine black churchgoers.”

The FBI have now “formally acknowledged it was investigating the website and the apparent manifesto” as to whether “the shooting was a hate crime or an act of terror ” see link,

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/20/dylann-roof-fbi-website-manifesto-charleston-shooting

The question must be asked, did Roof have links to other white supremacists that may have had a desire to kill? Let’s not forget also the recent spate of church attacks in the south as Post and Courier reported this could suggest a wider network may be at large. The publication reported,

“flames engulfed a historic African-American church Tuesday night that was already destroyed once by a blaze ignited by the Ku Klux Klan in 1995.

Mount Zion AME Church in Greeleyville is the seventh black church to burn across the South in the wake of the killing of nine worshipers at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church.”

Killers whatever their motives can mislead, lie, withhold information and mock those investigating them, sometimes it is a planned part of their “modus operandi” serving a personal satisfaction perhaps or even a wider political statement. All may not be as it first appears, it might be easy to write off some killers as “lone wolf” attackers without any obvious links as simply isolated misfits in society but all possible avenues must be explored. The families of those killed have a right to a thorough investigation. Society needs to know as far as possible why people have killed and are being killed whether by jihadists or far right extremists. We must ask, what messages should be taken on board in order to address how authorities and the public can take measures to limit such attacks in the future?

Surveillance State UK: Radicalization, who is monitoring the monitors?

20130716-GiznDrugix

Is British govt promoting Stasi type spying on citizens

(Image from film, “The Lives of Others”)

On 25th June 2015, ITV reported on one of the British government initiatives to tackle radicalization, which is defined in the Prevent Strategy as “the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and forms of extremism leading to terrorism.” ITV highlighted that, preventing young people from being groomed into terrorism – will become the responsibility of schools and colleges for the first time next week”. They went on to report,

“The subject has become more prominent after a Yorkshire family left their home on a pilgrimage and then fled to Syria.

Today, the counter terrorism and extremism team from Humberside Police has been briefing teachers and lecturers about their new responsibilities, and how to spot the signs of those being radicalised.”

See following video ITV video link,

http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/update/2015-06-25/police-brief-teachers-how-to-spot-signs-of-radicalisation/

However though as Humberside police point out, their biggest problem is far-right extremism,

There have been mixed reactions to the increased power of the “surveillance state” and moral, legal, social implications have been widely debated. Initiatives appear more aimed at spying on Muslims than anyone else in society. Parents reacted angrily to Waltham Forest Council when it was discovered that they were piloting a scheme to circulate questionnaires to children as young as 9 to try to detect radicalization. As the BBC highlighted this included questions on “how much they trust the police and people from another race or religion” and they were also asked “whether they agree that it is acceptable to marry someone from outside their race or religion and whether women are just as good as men at work.”

Will GPs be expected to spy on their patients? (Image Guardian)

There have also been moves for GPs to monitor patients for signs of radicalization. As Paul Joseph Watson reported for InfoWars in 2014,

“doctors in Britain are being forced to become state snitches and spot “radical” patients under an NHS initiative that threatens to cut funding if a GP practice fails to take part in the program.

Under the new NHS England policy, every GP practice must send a member of staff on the “Prevent” counter terrorism course, during which they are trained to detect patients who are ” vulnerable to radicalization,” before notifying authorities.”

One question not discussed so often is who will monitor the monitors, the doctors, the teachers and other professions? Should pupils be monitoring those that guide their learning asking if they have read Anders Breivik’s manifesto or partake in jihadi forums? Should patients be checking out their doctors’ views to assess whether they are sympathetic to Pegida or Al Qaeda whilst having their blood pressure monitored? Where does surveillance start and end?

Ryan McGee owned terrorist literature, made a bomb in his bedroom (image, Daily Mail)

It is not only students and young pupils in danger of developing extreme views… what about radicalized professionals? I pointed this out in an earlier article where I highlighted the case of former soldiers such as Ryan McGee, 20, who previously served with 5th Battalion The Rifles at a UK Base in Germany now jailed for 2 years for constructing a nail bomb containing shrapnel in his bedroom. The Guardian identified James Hughes, from Reading, Berkshire and Jamie Read from Newmains, north Lanarkshire allegedly working as mercenaries in Rojavs, Syria fighting alongside the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, the YPG defending Kobani. To add to concerns, Channel 4 had earlier raised the question in a report, “are British soldiers joining the English Defence League?”

https://activist1.wordpress.com/2014/12/06/terrorism-radicalized-soldiers-what-are-the-dangers-at-home-and-abroad/

Mohammad Siddique Khan worked in a school (image Telegraph)

There are a number of well documented cases where those working in our schools and NHS had become radicalized themselves. Mohammad Siddique Khan one of the 7/7 bombers worked as a primary school teaching assistant and youth worker. As  the BBC reported,

“his role at the school was that of “learning mentor”, working with children who were struggling with their work, as well as those with behavioural problems.

He was highly regarded by both teachers and parents, showing a real talent for encouraging difficult children, many of whom viewed him as a role model.”

If we reflect back to 2007, Bilal Abdulla one of the men involved in the Glasgow bomb plot was an NHS doctor born in Buckinghamshire who was brought up in Iraq. As the BBC notes, Abdulla was later found guilty of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions.

imgres

Former NHS doctor, Tariq Ali joined Taliban

Then there was British surgeon Tariq Ali who was struck off by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) fled abroad and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (TTP JA). He later died in a US drone strike, see following link,

“Anjem Choudary writes obituary for former NHS doctor who joined Taliban”

https://activist1.wordpress.com/2015/03/13/anjem-choudary-writes-obituary-for-former-nhs-doctor-who-joined-taliban/

Let us not forget Tareq Kamleh, (also known as  Abu Yusuf) an Australian doctor who appeared in promotional video urging western doctors to join the Islamic State (IS) equivalent of the NHS. Back in April, the Guardian ran a story of how nine British medics, born and raised in UK that had studied in Sudan, had entered the territory of IS illegally and were believed to be working in hospitals in the region. In June, the Mail reported that one of these medics believed to be Tamer Ahmed Ebu Sebah (nom de guerre Abu Amir al-Muhajir) also appeared in an IS video representing doctors and medical council in wilayat al-Kheir (Deir Ezzor province) in the Islamic State.

So who should be monitored and how far should monitoring go? Will Britain morph into a Stasi-like state so chillingly portrayed in the 2006 German film, “The Lives of Others” see following clip,

images

Should teachers be under permanent surveillance? (Image Birmingham Mail)

If teachers are to spy on pupils, should students also shop their teachers? It appears that teachers are already being subjected to “permanent surveillance”, with school leaders monitoring CCTV footage” in relation to performance according to the NASUWT teaching union. Should students join in the surveillance and check out their teachers’ behaviour?

Will we have another Mao-like system where professionals will be sent to away for “re-education”. There is a balance between preventing terrorism and over the top surveillance. Even as I am speaking measures are being put in place to tackle extremist radicalization within British universities, prisons, councils and public health trusts. RT details the government thinking,

“using divisive and hawkish language, the guidance says radicalized Islamic extremists view “western intervention” in Muslim-majority states as a “war with Islam.” It says this reasoning creates “a narrative of ‘them’ and ‘us.’”

See following link,

“Counter-terror law forces prisons, councils, universities to tackle radicalization”

http://rt.com/uk/270724-counter-terror-act-2015/

Except it isn’t just extremists that think this way, thousands upon thousands marched against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, realizing the problems that could follow, but were ignored. Where is the government accountability for war in Iraq, no sign of Chilcott report. What mess have foreign forces left behind in Afghanistan. It seems everyone must be accountable but those who actually govern us.

Now it seems the government wants a war with its own people, as well as a war with Islam. Those in power fear the truth therefore they must crush questioning voices. There is only one narrative and that is the government narrative, this is what so called “democracy” and “human rights” has come to in the UK.

imgres

Britain’s Home Secretary Theresa May among politicians that are blind, deaf and dumb in failing to adequately address what radicalizes individuals (Image, Mirror)

The irony is, despite all these plans for monitoring ordinary citizens, the Government is reluctant in the extreme to look at the extent to which foreign and domestic policy have radicalized individuals. It seems our parliament is increasingly obsessed with checking civilian communications, watching and listening in on the population however the area where THEY frequently fail to listen is to those at a grassroots level that have monitored “extremism” interviewed “terrorists” and gained some understanding of the process of  radicalization. Who is monitoring the government?

Tunisia: Slaughter on the beach, one called “terrorism”, the other in Gaza called “legal”

CImYvrxWsAAl_Eo

Alleged gunman Sousse, Tunisia (image from video)

The gunning down of tourists including up to 23 Brits on a beach in Sousse, Tunisia is now being referred to by the UK government and in the media as “the worst terrorist attack on the British people since 7/7”. The reference to 7/7 relates to the London bombings on the 7th July 2005 which left 52 dead, over 700 injured and 4 bombers also died. This years marks the 1oth anniversary.

Seifiddine Rezgui a 23 year old engineering student from Kairouan also known as Abu Yahya Al Qayrawani (his nom de guerre) dressed in shorts and t-shirt and emerged from the sea producing a weapon hidden within his umbrella. Rezgui then embarked on a terrible killing spree targeting families as they relaxed on sunbeds and played in the sand, locals however were spared. He took the life of Lisa Burbidge, from Whickham in Gateshead, shot Mathew James from Pontypridd, south Wales 3 times as he tried to protect his fiance and annihilated several members of the Evans family. Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack.

My earlier story on terrorism in Tunisia can be read on the following link,

“Tunisia: Islamic State allege responsibility for Sousse attack and earlier claimed Bardo museum assault.”

https://activist1.wordpress.com/2015/06/27/tunisia-islamic-state-allege-responsibility-for-sousse-attack-and-earlier-claimed-bardo-museum-assault/

Rezgui’s actions have left many Tunisians shocked. The Telegraph recounts “reports of a group of Tunisian men forming a human shield to prevent the gunman – who was targeting Europeans – from attacking other hotel guests.” Those who rely on tourists for their livelihood will be affected for years to come as experienced following the bombing of the tourist district of Kuta, Bali and kidnapping of holidaymakers near the Pyramids in Egypt.

The slaughter at Sousse is widely condemned. A clampdown is now in place, mosques not regulated by the state will be closed down and the injured where possible are in the process of being transported home.

The Mirror reported Prime Minister David Cameron referring to the attacks in Tunisia and France (no mention of Kuwait) as a “death cult” stating,

“the horror in Tunisia and Grenoble ‘fitted into this pattern of extremism Islamism and violence,’ he (Cameron) said at the EU summit in Brussels

‘We have to combat not only the terrorism, not only working with the countries that are suffering but dealing with this poisonous mindset, this death cult that is poisoning young minds and turning them to this path of mindless violence.'”

Children playing on a Gaza beach minutes before death

I am reminded of an earlier incident of “slaughter on the beach” in Gaza. As Professor Tanya Reinhart wrote back in 2002, the Gaza strip is a perfect realization of the Israeli vision of “separation”. Surrounded with electric fences and army posts, completely sealed off the outside world, Gaza has become a huge prison.” I recall an incident of extreme behaviour, another death cult of mindless violence which was condemned by many international human rights organizations, politicians and media who witnessed the beach attack carried out by the Israeli government.

Peter Beaumont of the Guardian wrote a poignant account on the 16th July 2014 of the Israeli shelling of children on a beach in the Gaza strip. The following is an extract,

“in the space of 40 seconds, four boys who had been playing hide and seek among fishermen’s shacks on the wall were dead. They were aged between seven and 11; two were named Mohammad, one Zakaria and the youngest Ahed. All were members of the extended Bakr family.

Three others who were injured made it to the hotel: Hamad Bakr, aged 13, with shrapnel in his chest; his cousin Motasem, 11, injured in his head and legs, and Mohammad Abu Watfah, 21, who was hit by shrapnel in his stomach.

A man who had been near them reached the hotel terrace first, scrambling up a steep sandy bank. A skinny man in his 30s, he groaned and held up a T-shirt already staining red with blood where he was hit in the stomach. He fainted and was carried to a taxi waved down in the street as he grew pale and limp.

The children were brought up next. Pulling up the T-shirt of the first boy, journalists administering first aid found a shrapnel hole, small and round as a pencil head, where he had been hit in the chest. Another boy, a brother or cousin, who was uninjured, slumped by the wall, weeping.

The injured boy cried in pain as the journalists cleaned and dressed the wound, wrapping a field dressing around his chest. He winced in pain, clearly embarrassed too as a colleague checked his shorts to look for unseen femoral bleeding. A waiter grabbed a table cloth to use as a stretcher, but a photographer took the boy in his arms to carry him to the ambulance.”

As Noam Chomsky, American linguist, philosopher, social justice activist, stated, “everybody’s worried about stopping terrorism, well there’s a really easy way: stop participating in it.” Many would apply that statement to Israel. However whereas the attack in Sousse is immediately deemed a “terrorist attack” (and if the perpetrator had lived he would have been charged with terrorism) Israel is off the hook.

As Middle East Eye (MEE) reported only 2 weeks before the Sousse assault,

“Israel announced on Thursday that no criminal charges will be brought against members of its army responsible for the deadly attack last summer on a Gaza beach that killed four boys from the same family.”

The defence for killing innocent children was, “the beach the boys were playing hide and seek on had been used by Hamas fighters to launch rockets at Israel.” However as MEE points out, Rifat Kassis (Defence for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) stated at the time of the attack, “Israeli forces continue to target and kill children and civilians on a daily basis, making Israeli military statements claiming that these deaths are tragic mistakes simply meaningless.” Hopefully this case will now proceed to the International Criminal Court as evidence of alleged Israeli war crimes.

See following link for full article,

http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-concludes-deadly-gaza-beach-bombing-was-legal-894438693

Western governments have long supported the Israelis with drone factories in the UK, funds and material support provided for “terror” despite human rights reports detailing what they claim is evidence of alleged war crimes. Islamic State and other jihadist groups continually highlight the abuses carried out on the Palestinians which are debated daily in online forums. We do not know if Rezgui was aware of the announcement by Israeli authorities dismissing the Gaza beach attack as “legal” though if he was radicalized four years ago as some media claim, it is likely he knew of the incident. Photos of the beach shelling were circulated widely last year on social media. Tunisians have been some of the most vocal people speaking out on atrocities against the Palestinians as was evident on Facebook and Twitter during the 2014 bombardment of Gaza.

In order to address terrorism, governments must first confront their own double standards on terrorism. They rush to prosecute suspected individuals and groups whilst ignoring state terrorists targeting Gazans like fish in a bowl.  The act carried out by Rezgui is labelled “terrorism” without hesitation yet the terrorism of state institutions is downplayed often with no accountability. As long as such hypocrisy exists we must expect terrorist attacks to not only continue but very likely increase.
