Message to Parents of Special Needs/Disabled Children…
Assalamu Alaykum
This is a message from myself and my wife (Umm Aaminah) to all parents who have children (as well as family members) with special needs/disabilities…
Allah azzawajal has tested us and given us the responsibility of taking care of our family members especially children who have disabilities/special needs. This is an Amaanah, a trust bestowed upon us. Although sometimes we think or question why we are in such a situation remember that Allah tests those whom He loves with that which they love.
Sometimes we don’t understand the wisdom behind Allah testing us but it is never intended to destroy us:
“When Allah tests you, it is never intended to destroy you. When He removes something in your possession, it is only in order to empty your hands for an even greater gift.” – Ibn al-Qayyim
Allah has blessed us and gave us the opportunity to meet another Ramadan, we look around and see others are actively engaging in Ibadah more than us. We feel left behind in our Deen causing us to be despondent and confused. However we must realise that we are also actively engaged in Ibadah, every second of the day by looking after our children (or family members) with disabilities/special needs! Ibadah isn’t restricted to praying your Salah, fasting , etc, Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah wrote:
“Worship is a comprehensive term covering everything that Allah loves and is pleased with – whether saying, or actions, outward and inward.” [Majmu’ al-Fatawa (10/149)]
Let’s be patient as Allah told us in the Quran that the reward of the Sabiroon will be given without measure.
Maybe InshAllah this will be our ticket to Jannah. On the Day of Judgement almost everyone will be overwhelmed with regret in a way that we can’t even imagine. Those who were tested by Allah and were patient will show up with so many sins completely erased and the relief they will feel when they realise that is just unimaginable. Others will look on in envy and wishing they could go back and get twenty diseases and fifty problems and live a life of utter pain, because this entire #dunya – even if you were to live 100 years – is not even 1% of the 50,000-year-long DAY of Judgement. If that’s just ONE DAY, then what about the #Akhirah? Forever!
Don’t lose hope, keep on going and beseech Allah.
May Allah pour upon us patience.
Ramadan Mubarak
