Dr Tariq Ali gave up his medical profession to join Pakistan Taliban
A former British surgeon Dr Mirza Tariq Ali, 39, who once practised on the NHS has been confirmed dead in Pakistan by Taliban spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan who appeared with Ali in a “jihadi” video in 2014. Ali who began his medical career as a doctor in the Pakistan Army was struck off by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) after a hearing in Manchester, England. Before he left the UK, he had been dividing his time working between London and Cambridge.
Mr David Kyle, Chair MTPS panel investigating Ali (who was alleged to have connections to banned terrorist organisation Al Muhajiroun) was quoted in This is Local London as saying, “his behaviour is unacceptable and he has failed to uphold the proper standards of conduct and behaviour expected of a doctor.” The paper reported, “Ali was charged with violent disorder following a demonstration calling for jihad in Syria organised by Walthamstow-based extremist preacher, Anjem Choudary.”
News of Ali’s death appeared in a press release detailing a newly formed Taliban Coalition group consisting of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaat ul Ahrar, Tehreek-e-Lashkar-e-Islam and Tehreek-e-Taliban. The statement read,
“Maulana Shakeel Ahmed Haqqani Shaheed and Doctor Tariq Ali also known as Abu Obaidah Al Islamabadi Shaheed martyring is carried out by the agents of the notorious ISI. Therefore, the revenge of these martyrs will be taken by Tehreek-e-Taliban jointly”

Ali helped edit ‘Ihya-e-Khilafat’ publication
In 2014, the Daily Mail stated that Ali had originally intended to join the Islamic State but was captured before he could proceed. After his release from Croatia, Ali headed for Pakistan where he joined Tehreek-e-Taliban Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (TTP JA) and “helped edit an online English-language jihadist magazine, called ‘Ihya-e-Khilafat’, Revival of the Islamic Caliphate, aimed at recruiting Muslim youths from the West”
Ali appeared happy in his new life and said, “I am very impressed with the hospitality, sincerity and sacrifices of the Mujahideen here and found them very different from the brutal image that is being attributed to them by Pakistan media.” In contrast he was extremely critical of the Pakistan military and after participating twice in operations in his earlier life had allegedly refused to take orders a third time to participate in action in Miranshah. He encouraged others to disobey orders also.
Well know leader Maulana Shakeel Ahmed Haqqani was also killed and will be a major loss to the Taliban
Also killed was Maulana Shakeel Ahmed Haqqani who was at one stage head of the TTP’s political shura and deputy chief of the TTP Mohmand. He was a close associate of Umar Khalid Khorasani (aka Abdul Wali) who helped found Pakistan Tehreek -e- Taliban (TTP) in 2007 and later assisted in forming splinter group Tehreek-e-Taliban Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (TTP JA) After a short split the groups are now reunited.
Ehsanullah Ehsan tweeted,
“Our two brave and respected brothers Maulana Shakeel Ahmed Haqqani & Doctor Tariq were martyred by the agents of ISI.”
“We are proud of the martyrdom of our brothers. InShaaAllah we will take the revenge from the enemy.”
Abu Musab Khorasani added,
“SubanAllah may Allah accept Dr tariq Ali ex pak soldier who joined the ranks of the mujahideen in pak taliban and shaheed Insha Allah”
